Hi. We haven’t written in a while.
After last year’s election, like many in our community, we went quiet. Not because we didn’t care—but because we were exhausted. Heartbroken. Disoriented. We’ve been reeling from the barrage of horrors coming out of this administration and wrestling with how best to meet the moment.
And this past April, after graduating from the Obama Foundation’s Leaders USA program, I (Han) was reminded of what President Obama calls the fierce urgency of now—and the long arc of change we’re still called to bend.
Since then, I’ve spent time in deep conversation with organizers, elected officials, and movement leaders across the world, asking:
What does it mean to care for our democracy by caring for the people inside it?
I have been planning to share more soon.
But then Saturday happened...
The murder of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman—and the violent attack on Senator John Hoffman and his wife—was devastating. For elected officials around the country, this tragedy has added another layer of grief to a season already defined by threat, burnout, and isolation.
For the past few years, Her Term has quietly provided emotional and mental health support to Democratic women elected officials and candidates in Georgia. In response to this moment, we’re expanding our services to all Democratic state legislators, of all genders.
We’re also moving forward with our Fall 2025 Wellness Retreat and launching a Wellness Care Drive to provide real, tangible support to Georgia’s 60+ Democratic women leaders.

This is what community looks like.
We do not have to accept the trauma of public service as inevitable.
We can build infrastructure that says: you deserve to feel safe, held, and whole.
With deep love and renewed purpose,
